Special-shaped steel wires are non-circular cross-section steel wires. Due to their complex cross-sectional shape, high dimensional accuracy, free-cutting shape and unlimited length, they have a wide range of uses, such as square (or trapezoidal) steel wires for mechanical springs and washers, automobiles and High-grade carburetor and piston ring steel wire for motorcycles, large-size flat steel wire for glass lifter and seat angle adjuster, card clothing steel wire for textile industry and clockwork steel wire for children's toys and watches, high-strength winding for 10,000-ton press Low-relaxation flat steel wire, other special alloy special-shaped steel wire for aerospace and military industry, etc. In the 1960s, foreign countries were able to produce a variety of special-shaped steel wires with complex sections and formed a series.

 

my country's special-shaped steel wire started late. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, only a few large factories such as Shaanxi Steel Plant, Shougang Special Steel Plant, Jiangxi Xinyu Steel Plant relied on their technical strength to organize the production of some simple-section special-shaped steel wires. In addition, there are problems such as large dimensional tolerances and poor cleaning performance. The materials are mainly carbon steel and stainless steel. The annual output is more than 1,000 tons, and less than a few hundred or dozens of tons. Because of its small quantity, difficult production, poor quality, and unobvious benefits, it has not attracted the attention of manufacturers. In the late 1980s, due to the development of the national economy and the gradual formation of the market economy, the production of special-shaped steel wires has been rapidly developed in my country, and the pace of equipment introduction has also accelerated, such as the Italian three-roll cold-rolled steel wire mill (model 76 /14), the four-roll roll drawing die SGL65 imported from the UK by Zhengzhou Metal Products Research Institute, etc., have all contributed to the technological progress of special-shaped steel wire production.

 

The shape of special-shaped steel wire is complex, and there are many varieties and specifications. Chinese production enterprises have adopted the method of drawing, rolling and combination of drawing-rolling, and have been able to produce special-shaped steel wires of various shapes, as shown in Figure 16-1-1. Materials have also developed from ordinary carbon steel to carbon structural steel, carbon spring steel, alloy tool steel, stainless steel, heat and corrosion resistant alloy steel, high chromium bearing steel and non-ferrous metals. The delivery state includes annealing state, cold drawing state and oil quenching and tempering state, and there are disc delivery and straight delivery. The specifications range from 0.4 to 14mm, which basically meets the needs of the market. However, there is still some gap between the steel wire shape and size, tolerance, sliver performance and surface treatment of foreign developed countries.
